Introducing....The Art of Banding
Documenting the British Brass Banding movement and having a damn good time in the process....
On the weekend of the 10th of May, 2025 I went to Blackpool with my friend Katy. We were on a mission, to document the British Brass Banding movement.
Katy is a photographer, I am a writer and a comedian (though we do both have day jobs that are not this).
This weekend was the start of this project that we are calling 'The Art of Banding'.
Our aim is to tell stories from British Brass Banding in words and pictures. To showcase the movement as it is today by getting in amongst it, taking photos, talking to people, going to contests. Gathering recollections, but also focusing on the present and the future. We are still unsure what exact form the project will take, but we have ideas, hopefully this Substack and Instagram will just be the start. We will use this Substack as a newsletter, and a place to publish interviews and updates.
We hope that it will be of interest to people outside of the banding world as well as players.
